‘The Bacon Explosion’ recipe has squeaked its way into web stardom. A pork lover’s dream and a vegetarian’s nightmare, 16,000 sites have linked to the site, and the recipe itself has over 390,000 views. The recipe was created by Jason Day and Aaron Chronister, members of a competitive Kansas City barbecue team called ‘Burnt Fingers BBQ.’ They developed it in response to a challenge received from a bacon fan that asked, “What would the barbecuers do with bacon?” Here’s the basics: Multiple strips of bacon are lovingly woven into a greasy mesh, seasoned ground pork sausage is layered onto the sheet, more cooked and crumbled bacon is sprinkled on top, and the whole thing is rolled into a missile-shaped roll of meat. The entrée features 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat. I have to admit the grilling pork tubes do look rather attractive there on the barbecue, purely from a foodie perspective.
