Connie Culp Shares Her Face Transplant Tale With Laughter

Connie Culp is the first person in the United States to get a full face transplant.  This 46-year old woman is truly an inspiration to us all; as seen in the above video, she still has an optimistic outlook and her humor intact after her horrific ordeal.

Culp’s psychotic husband blasted Connie in the face with a shotgun back in 2004 and she has endured 30 operations to try and repair the damage done since.  Luckily for her, there were many people who cared for Connie and made it possible for her recovery during her face transplant.

The organ donor who donated to Connie is definitely someone whose generosity Connie is thankful for. Dr. Maria Siemionow is one of the many outstanding doctors who spent countless hours replacing 80 percent of Connie’s face with bone, muscles and nerves during the face transplant.

The final product of this surgical benchmark is not just a woman with the first successful face transplant in the nation, but rather a restored life and a story that will give hope for generations to come.
