360 keeps the skating and loses the board
Alexandra Choli — February 16, 2009 — Art & Design
Winner of the Volvo SportsDesign award in 2007, the 360 is the latest extreme-sport gizmo from designer Francesco Sommacal. The concept is a portable hybrid-looking mode of transportation whose function lies between skateboarding, in-line skating and snowboarding.
With tractor-like tires, it presents a rather loud design, though quite straightforward in use. The aspiring rider inserts his or her- feet in the wheel openings and leads the way, cruising and performing at will. The videos posted on the designers site shed some light on the possibilities, as well as some anxiety regarding the potential result.
So it may look like a super-sized pair of high-tech goggles or of futuristic handcuffs, but do not be fooled; it is destined to be a flashy, mean and adventurous piece of transit.
