Just the idea of the amount of patience and dedication the photographer put into making this black and white tree photo series come to life is mind-blowing and heartwarming.
Photographer Michael Kenna has been visiting the same crooked tree in Japan for the last 20 years -- either at dawn or in the nighttime -- to capture the changes to it with his Hasselblad camera.
"In the winter of 2002, I was most fortunate to have a serendipitous meeting with a glorious Japanese Oak on the banks of Kussharo Lake, Hokkaido, Japan," says Kenna.
The whimsical tree photo series is beautifully crafted with ethereal natural light and a tree that becomes almost like a friend to the photographer. The English photographer kept going back to the oddly shaped tree to complete his 'Kussharo Lake Tree' series.
"There was something quintessentially Japanese in its shape, rather like a woodblock print," says Kenna.
