These whimsical paintings by South Korean artist Kyungyup Kwon beautify physical wounds -- With the incorporation of bandages and even eye patches, the central theme of injury is clearly depicted in these oil on canvas paintings.
The head bandaged portraits are titled 'Bleached Memory' -- the subject in the paintings wear subtly sad and nostalgic expressions. Overall, the paintings are brightly colored and have a dreamy feel, which aligns with the idea of amnesia and trance-like symptoms after a serious injury.
The artist seems to play around with bandages as a part of fashion as well; her painting titled 'Space of Memory' shows a woman wearing a thick hospital bandage as a skirt. Kwon also decorates head bandages with a pearl-studded flower in one of her paintings, disguising wounded faces into pretty mannequin-like models.
