Indian Bike-Sharing Schemes

Cycle Chalao Had to Close Due to Lack of Government Support

Social Business is covering Cycle Chalao at time of change for the business and its entrepreneurial founders. The Mumbai-based social business introduced a bicycle sharing scheme to India in order to gain all the benefits of cycling: reducing pollution (both noise and air), exercise, less money, less travel time in congested areas, etc.

Unfortunately, however, the initiative had to close at the end of last year due to lack of government support. Founders Raj Janagam and Jui Gangan, both 24 years old, will likely start other ventures in the future. Janagam made a crucial point in an interview with the Hindustan Times: "The bicycle-sharing system in several foreign countries is usually funded by the government, so why can’t the government do it here?"
