Espira Creates Images that Border Between Attraction and Freakishness
Andrew Robertson — May 25, 2012 — Naughty
London-based artist Espira infuses his artwork with an abundance of dark metaphors clashing against seductive undertones. The illustrations often center around a general sense of death, articulated through the use of the grim reapers hood and dark visage. This initial impression of the morbid is complicated, but in no way diminished, by the feminine bodies of the characters. The combination between the two elements articulates a sense of similarity rather than difference, sin and punishment go hand in hand.
Combining fashion awareness with surreal imagery, Espira's work borders on the attractive and the freakish. None of the images include the faces of the characters, a reference to the features that may often be overlooked when subjecting the female form.
