Artist Gregory Kloehn Finds Solace in Dumpster Home
Zoe Poulias — September 16, 2011 — Art & Design
Challenging typical views on what makes a house a home, artist Gregory Kloehn designed his Dumpster Home to prove that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From the outside Kloehn’s creation looks like an ordinary green dumpster, however, on the inside there is nothing ordinary about this transformative space.
This former waste bin is complete with granite countertops, a working toilet, a water tank and even a fully-functional grill. To make this metal bin warm and inviting his vision was to “put everything in that a home has inside a dumpster and if I could make it nice enough where perhaps someone would like to live in it”, says Kloehn. If cozy metal bins suit your fancy, the Dumpster Home design may just be the kind of modest abode you are looking for.
