18 Reasons Michelle Obama is a Cultural Icon

Drag queens and the Associated Press have one thing in common: They love Michelle Obama. With the announcement that editor Mandi Norwood is penning the Michelle Obama Style Guide for Avon that is due out in Spring 2009, what better time than now to pay tribute to the many trends of Michelle Obama?

In the realm of fashion, designers have battled for dibs on her inauguration gown.  She’s posed for Vogue and been featured by retailers (J. Crew got some Michelle Obama love on the Tonight Show). Michelle Obama, it is being proclaimed, is the next Jackie O. Even her jewelry makes the headlines.

In the media world, no one can get enough Michelle. If she sneezes, the media wants to know what brand of tissue she used. Vogue, Ebony and Essence have sunk their teeth into Michelle Obama’s enigma. Where does she shop? How does she parent her kids? What kind of a role will she play in the White House?

For women, she’s not just a pretty face. This woman is cool, calm, and collected. She seems fearless, confident, and very much in love in her relationship with Mr. President. Before becoming First Lady, she was a true professional who balanced her own career, the career of her husband and raising her kids.

Speaking of kids, expect a rise in the names Sasha, Malia and Michelle in the coming year. Can anyone say Superwoman?
