Xfinity Shield is Comcast's new home protection platform that combines home monitoring, family controls and cybersecurity features within a single app centered around Wi-Fi connectivity. Included at no additional cost for Xfinity Internet customers, Wi-Fi Shield introduces Wi-Fi Motion, an opt-in feature that detects movement by analyzing changes in radio frequency signals between the Xfinity Gateway and connected devices. The platform also protects connected devices from malware, phishing and other cyber threats while integrating household screen time and device management controls.
Users can assign devices to individual family members and switch between Home, Away and Sleep protection modes through the Xfinity app. Comcast says Wi-Fi Motion detects activity without recording video, capturing images or identifying individuals. An optional Shield Select subscription adds an indoor camera, door or window sensor, cloud video storage, 24-hour emergency response and AI-powered object recognition for people, pets, packages and vehicles.
