Last year, Bumble implemented in-app voice and video calling features, which increased safety for the app's community of people open to dating, new friendships and professional connections. As the feature saves people from having to exchange phone numbers to chat, unmatching revokes calling privileges and gives users an alternative to giving away their personal contact details.
Now, video and audio dates are surging in popularity as people in quarantine look for direct and authentic ways to connect with others during trying times. Although Bumble has been offering calls and video chats within its app since last summer, it recorded a 21% increase in Bumble Video Call usage in the past week alone.
