Facebook has indicated that it will pay for user recordings in order to enhance its speech recognition technology. Only a select number of users will be able to take part in the program, which Facebook titled 'Pronunciations,' and it can pay participants up to $5 for a user recording.
Users in the program will be requested to record themselves saying, "Hey Portal," as well as the name of a friend they have on Facebook. Participants will then have to do this with 10 different names to ear points. Once a participant has reached 1000 points they are then able to cash out and receive their compensation of $5.
Overall the program could help Facebook create new technology for speech recognition, as the platform no longer listens to voice chats on the platform.
