In honor of its second birthday, the Brixton Pound has taken up a bold new visual identity. The currency, which is the first urban currency in the UK and is used to support a buy local ethos in the area, has the faces of four Brixton heroes.
David Bowie is without a doubt the most recognizable figure on the Brixton Pound, appearing on the ten pound note. This use of iconic local figures is an intelligent way to promote the use of a currency to create local transactions.
Implications - Youth demographics have a penchant for the contemporary, both in terms of art and design. This inclination stems from seeing part of themselves within popular culture and maintaining as their own. Companies should seek out ways to reflect the identity of youth consumers back to them to create a more meaningful connection.
