Minimalist Swedish Farmhouses

Sandberg's Design Fuse the Traditional & the Contemporary

Sandell Sanberg has designed a series of 12 Swedish farmhouses, entitled Wiklandsbacke, in a village of the coast of Sweden. The building stipulations restricted the architects to a roof angle of 45 degrees. The architects combated this limitation by dividing the houses into units and outfitting the homes with high ceilings, which resists the traditionalism of the roof shape.

The spacious interiors feature a sleek, all-white design, a built-in kitchen unit, a central, wood-burning fireplace and a little study-alcove on the upper level, which looks down onto the ground floor.

Overall, these homes – which are still in progress of being built -- embody a fusion of tradition and contemporary elements of design. If you’re a fan of mixing old with new, definitely check out these charming, minimalist Swedish homes.
