Smaller-Format Grocery Concepts

Sungiven Foods Unveils New Metro Vancouver Stores

Sungiven Foods, the Asia-rooted retailer led in Canada by Paul Zhang, debuted a refined small-format grocery concept in Metro Vancouver, featuring expanded private-label assortments and ready-to-eat offerings. The chain, which entered Canada in 2019, has standardized its store layouts into roughly 4,000- and 8,000-square-foot formats to suit dense neighbourhoods.

The retailer emphasized private-label brands such as Onetang, Yuho and Sunfreesia, sourcing directly from manufacturers and farms while pursuing a “Three Lows” approach—low processing, low additives and lower prices. Recent operational moves included a central kitchen, distribution centre and a February 2026 partnership with Uber Eats for on-demand delivery.

For shoppers, the model promises fresher, affordable staples and quicker meals without big-box trips, appealing to multicultural, health-focused urban households. By pairing localized sourcing with small footprints and delivery, Sungiven’s rollout signals how curated private-label grocers can expand in land-constrained cities.
