Subscription Exit Prompts

Apple Adds Custom Retention Offers To The App Store Cancellation Process

Apple is giving app developers a new way to encourage subscribers to stay when they try to cancel an auto-renewing plan. Retention messages can now appear directly in the App Store cancellation process, giving users the chance to see a special offer or explanation before making their final decision.

Developers can manage the messages through App Store Connect and choose which subscribers receive them, rather than showing the same prompt to everyone. Apple is also offering a Retention Messaging API by request, allowing developers to use subscription details to tailor offers to individual accounts.

The change gives developers another opportunity to retain paying customers without directing them away from the App Store. It also makes the cancellation process a new place for subscription services to communicate with users before they leave.
