Faceted Organ Papercrafts

The SPLASH Dubai 2013 Calendar is Cold and Surreal

The SPLASH Dubai 2013 Calendar went for a stylish sterile look by way of a hospital room. To add a bit of color and an element of the surreal, the fashion retailer enlisted the help of The Makerie Studio, a London-based creative specializing in bespoke paper sculptures. Keeping up with the hospital theme, founders and artists Julie Wilkinson and Joyanne Horscroft were asked to create human organ sculptures.

Titled Room 2013, the SPLASH Dubai 2013 Calendar, which was shot by Lucia Giacani, is centered around an oversized faceted paper heart. Wilkinson and Horscroft also created a brain, lung and eye out of textured and reflective papers. Although the photoshoot is cold, dark and slightly creepy, the use of such paper props lends it a warmth of imagination that goes a long way.
