The Arianespace CEO, Stéphane Israël, stated that the company will offer a rocket rideshare program to the moon in the year 2023. The announcement was made at the International Astronautical Congress. Israël stated that rocket rideshares will be done with the company's Ariane 6 rocket and that the organization is currently looking at a number of different prospective customers.
The Ariane 6 is a rocket that has a two-stage heavy-lift system, the rocket is currently in development overseen by the European Space Agency. Currently, the Ariane 6 is scheduled for test flights next year.
If Arianespace can meet its 2023 target date it would be the first company to offer this kind of service.
