JC Penney has launched a multi-pronged Christmas campaign called 'Who’s Your Santa!' with many elements -- traditional, online and mobile -- and a very interesting part of this campaign are the recordable QR code gift tags, called the 'Santa Tags.'

The customers can get the Santa Tag with their holiday gift purchases from the retail stores. They can use any QR code reader to scan their code on their smartphone. Then, they can record a personal message to the recipient of their gift. When the recipient receives the gift with its recordable QR code gift tag, they can scan this code and receive the personalized message.

Clearly, JC Penney has devised another new and innovative use for the QR code. This offering should differentiate JC Penney from all other retailers this holiday season!
