Athletic Pickle Drinks

McDonald’s Bottles Its Pickle Brine for Chicago Runners

McDonald’s is transforming a familiar menu ingredient into athletic pickle drinks with Pickle Boost, a bottled version of the brine used for its signature pickles. Created for Chicago’s marathon weekend, the limited-edition drink taps into athletes’ existing use of pickle juice during workouts. McDonald’s will distribute Pickle Boost during a Lakefront Trail shakeout run and at select Chicago restaurants on race day, giving runners, spectators and pickle fans access to the product for free.

The activation allows McDonald’s to participate in marathon culture without introducing a permanent menu item. Repurposing a recognizable ingredient into a sports-oriented format creates an unexpected connection between the restaurant and active consumers while generating attention around its pickle fandom. Strategically placed sampling locations can also bring race-day traffic to participating restaurants, while the limited availability encourages social sharing and strengthens McDonald’s presence around a major local event.
