Associated Press chief photographer David Guttenfelder is one of the rare people privileged enough to capture arguably the most secretive country in the world and now he has been granted permission to start a North Korea Instagram series. Unlike his previous series, the social media platform allows Guttenfelder to post real-time, geo-tagged images online for a more immediate and candid effect.

Uploading directly from the city of Pyongyang, the North Korea Instagram series is made possible thanks to local phone network provider Koryolink, which recently opened up a 3G connection that lets them tweet and post images to social media. Guttenfelder reveals, "There are so many curious, strangely beautiful, or melancholy details around us here... These might not be typical of the news photos I usually transmit, but they offer fleeting glimpses of this country, and how it feels to be here."
