Sony and Nintendo may have a thing or two to be worried about when the Neo Geo Portable Device debuts. SNK is making a triumphant return to the world of portable gaming after the spectacular failure of the Neo Geo pocket back in 1999. The Neo Geo Pocket debuted at a time when Nintendo reigned supreme on all things handheld gaming.
That was 12 years ago, and now the handheld gaming market has been blown wide open thanks to companies like Sony and Apple. Mobile gaming, especially retro mobile gaming, is more popular than ever. The Neo Geo Portable Device aims to capitalize on this feeling of nostalgia in a big way. The portable comes loaded with 20 classic Neo Geo games including Fatal Fury and the all-time great arcade shooter Metal Slug.
The Neo Geo Portable Device plays retro games but is modern in every other way. The device is about the size of an iPhone, has a 4.3-inch screen and features AV and SD ports. No release date or price has been announced and the name of the device is tentative.
