The NEC passager drone underwent a test flight in Japan, during which a quadcopter reached a 10-foot elevation for approximately one minute. The drone test was conducted within a safety cage, and for this test, no passengers were inside the drone. The test was conducted in Abiko, which is a Tokyo suburb.
The NEC passenger drone features a battery-powered design and is scheduled for mass production beginning in 2026. NEC's drone weighs in at approximately 150 kilograms and is 3.9 meters in length, with a 3.7-meter width and a 1.3-meter height.
NEC seems to have the support of the Japanese government for its drone, as it already has a permit for flights outside of testing buildings.
