The new NASA moon spacesuit features a design that is much improved from the spacesuits that were used for previous moon missions. NASA’s new moon space suits are now easier to enter, have better mobility, as well as better communications. Instead of building a completely new spacesuit, the NASA engineers elected to improve the existing design. This results in a design that looks similar to spacesuits used in previous moon missions.
The new spacesuit is titled the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit or xEMU. The xEMU is currently still undergoing development, where the suits are being tested underwater. However, orbital testing is currently scheduled for 2023. NASA spoke its spacesuit and stated that they are, “a personalized spaceship that mimics all of the protections from the harsh environment of space and the basic resources that Earth and its atmosphere provide.”
