If phrases like “Cowabunga” and “heroes in a half-shell” are familiar vernacular to you, then you’re definitely no stranger to the subjects in these Matt Kaufenberg illustrations. The Minnesota artist has rendered Krang, Shredder, Rocksteady and Bebop from the popular ‘90s incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, only he’s put his own whimsical spin on things and produced images that are more adorable than menacing. Who can honestly be mad at Krang when he and his robot suit are skipping about while eating an ice cream cone?
Matt Kaufenberg is known for his zany, child-centric drawing style and that’s what he’s brought to the table with these pictures. The cutely contorted proportions are reminiscent of Nickelodeon cartoons, yet Kaufenberg retains the details of the original designs for each respective evildoer.
