Tag Heuer has announced the official launch of the Meridiist, the first luxury mobile phone of this watch brand. Their partner in this venture is Modelabs, a company based in Paris which works as a Customized Design Manufacturer (CDM) that design, develop and distribute mobile phones, accessories, and services for operators, retailers and major brands as Hummer, Levis and MTV. The product idea came from a design meeting in the Swiss company's headquarters were they realized how unhappy they were about mobile phone design.
The Tag Heuer Meridiist mobile phone is made from watch-making stainless steel and has two unscratchable 60.5 carat sapphire crystal displays. It displays the time in a 96x76 monochromatic OLED screen in the upper part of the phone and comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera, MP3 player and bluetooth technology.
The Tag Heuer Meridiist mobile phone will be available in September 2008 in Tag Heuer boutiques and selected watch and jewelry stores. The price tag of the Meridiist will be somewhere between 3,400-3,900 euros, depending on the chosen modification.
It seems like Vertu will finally have some serious competition.
