The series Living Echo by Rachel Sokal explores the beauty of foliage with an expertly developed printing style.
Sokal has created a way to print on leaves using sunlight. She does this by first adding a coat of acetate to the leafy canvas that depicts her desired image and then having them sit in the sunlight until the image appears. Once the image has been transferred on, each resulting piece becomes extremely delicate. The acetate used does not interfere with the decaying process and each leaf decays making for artistically fading imagery.
Due to the delicate nature of each piece, when displayed in a gallery they must be covered so that the light does speed up the decaying process. This makes for an intriguing spectacle as spectators must peer in and experience fleeting beauty.
