— February 6, 2025 — Art & Design
Karimoku Furniture is one of the leading wooden furniture manufacturers in Japan with an impressive history of 80 years of craftsmanship -- it has just launched Karimoku Research. This is a progressive initiative that functions as a hub to explore new ways of living. To do this, it surveys others, archiving, and understanding how people live. To do this, Karimoku Research understands through collaborations with global creatives and imagines the role of design in day-to-day life.

By opening the new research center in Tokyo, the brand fuses its woodworking roots with a fresh approach to initiate more dialogue and form meaningful designs that would be of use in the future. The first survey was Survey 00: WOOD. It showcased the firm's commitment to progressing the role of wood in modern design and sustainability along with the collaborative efforts of Christian+Jade.
