Jakub Gulyas has a keen eye for whimsy judging by his recent work for Inspire magazine. The series, titled ‘Cabinet of Curiosities,’ is an unabashed exploration of imagination.
Each frame focuses on a young model adorned in fanciful, almost fairytale-like clothing. She is set in a room full of curious objects that range from slightly macabre, such as skulls and bones, to whimsical toys and balloons. The viewer follows her on a flight of fancy inspired by these objects.
The frames progess gradually from dull grays to bright, bouncy pastels. As the colors become more jaunty and elaborate, so too does the scenery. By the end of the series one feels as though they are looking at scenes from a full-blown dream.
