Google introduced Incremental Takeout for Google Photos, a new export feature designed to make recurring local backups smaller and faster by exporting only items changed since the last successful archive. The tool requires users to select Google Photos as the sole product during Takeout setup and still creates a full baseline archive on the first run.
After the initial export, subsequent downloads compare against the previous successful backup and include only new, edited, uploaded or backed-up photos and videos, reducing duplicate data transfers. The feature retains standard Takeout packaging and export settings while adding an incremental option to the Photos-only workflow.
For consumers who maintain external or secondary photo archives, incremental exports can reduce bandwidth use, storage requirements and backup times after the initial download. The update makes recurring photo backups more efficient while leaving broader multi-product Google account exports to separate Takeout workflows.
