Hyperkin's The Competitor is a Dualsense-Inspired Gamepad
Colin Smith — August 22, 2025 — Tech
The Competitor from Hyperkin is a wired gaming controller built around a modular USB-C design that lets users swap connector modules to match Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 or PC ports. It adopts a symmetrical, Xbox-style shell with offset analog sticks, mechanical microswitch triggers, dual rumble motors and a 3.5 mm headset jack. Four rear remappable buttons and on-board macro programming deliver enhanced input flexibility, while the inclusion of Hall-effect stick modules promises improved longevity and stick drift resistance.
Hyperkin positions The Competitor as a single-controller solution for multi-platform players, offering a starter kit with one platform module and additional modules sold separately. Priced at USD 49.99 for the base unit and USD 19.99 per extra module, it forgoes proprietary adaptive triggers and haptic feedback on PlayStation 5 but maintains full button mapping and analog input support. Availability is slated for late 2025 through Hyperkin’s website and select retailers.
