The HP Z1 Workstation Accommodates Your Desktop and Your Desktop Computer

The packaging for the HP Z1 Workstation looks like the sort of case that might carry the new 27-inch Hewlett-Packard computer screen. The 1 x 1.6 meter cardboard box was in fact intended for that purpose, but it has been creatively adapted by several designers to construct a clever expandable desk from a briefcase.

One firm, Goodstuph, developed this complex concept that is surprisingly simple to assemble from more than 250 slats into a elaborate lattice of crisscrossing connections and honeycomb shapes. The broad supportive layer beneath the surface of the escritoire is made from interlocking segments of card and propped up by three stalactite-like legs. With helpful labeling to organize your desktop objects, the HP Z1 Workstation can hold up to 30 kilograms in weight and comfortably fits two knees underneath.
