The Anchorage Girls High School Hockey Program is Re-Launching

Initially rescued by The DICK'S Sporting Goods Foundation in 2013 with a $200,000 Sports Matter Grant, the Anchorage Girls High School Hockey program recently received another significant boost —  a $100,000 grant and updated equipment. This funding ensures the program can continue providing young athletes opportunities for development, teamwork, and connection.

The Anchorage Girls High School Hockey program's reliance on volunteer coaches and tight fundraising underscores the challenges many youth sports organizations face. The grant, therefore, alleviates financial pressures while reaffirming the importance of accessible sports programs for young women. Alumni Gabi Gibson and Amber Steinhilpert, both beneficiaries of the program's earlier funding, returned to help secure the future of hockey in Anchorage.
