IBM Created an AI System to Predict Symptoms of Huntington's Disease
Daniel Johnson — January 29, 2020 — Tech
IBM developed an AI system that is able to make health predictions for individuals affected by Huntington's disease. The health predictions are powered by AI, and the system can inform patients as to when they may experience systems related to Huntington's disease, and it can also inform patients as to how their symptoms may advance.
IBM researchers were able to train the AI system using MRI scans, where the AI used white matter as an indicator of potential cognitive changes that could arise as a result of the disease. The researchers also stated that they are hopeful that using only one MRI image, the system could accurately estimate the progression of Huntington's disease across a number of different categories.
