Johnnie Walker’s Gold Label Reserve is a 40% ABV blended Scotch that replaces the former Gold Label 18 and drops the age statement, with its debut bottle presented in a shiny gold limited-time design. The liquid is described as very sweet and fruity on the nose with honey, apricot and raisin alongside subtle smoke, salinity and oak.
The palate opens a little thin and takes a moment to show honeyed malt, apricot and raisin before oak and light citrus push the fruit backward. The midpalate reveals slight smoke and black pepper while the finish is fairly short, dry and dominated by oak and citrus.
The expression reads as an oak-forward, sweeter blend aimed at premium crossover drinkers and nontraditional Scotch occasions. Its price point sits above the prior 18-year offering, which may affect purchase decisions for blended whisky connoisseurs.
