Even in its most natural state, wood allows for the creation of meaningful pieces like the ones made by Italian artist Guiseppe Penone. Entitled 'In The Hidden Life Within,' this beautiful project looks to appreciate concepts such as life, nature and time.

Penone carves out trees inside the trunk of older ones to illustrate how there is life inside nature and life's mesmerizing manifestations in the world. "My artwork shows...the essence of matter and tries to reveal with the work, the hidden life within," explains the artist on his website.

These young sculptural shrubs by Guiseppe Penone aesthetically represent where the older trees comes from and where they can go if life follows its innate and natural path.
