Genesis Motor America Debuts GMR Esports for Genesis Magma Racing

— May 11, 2026 — Autos
Genesis Motor America has launched GMR Esports as the official esports team of Genesis Magma Racing, which "will compete in official events organized to support the FIA World Endurance Championship on Le Mans Ultimate."

GMR Esports is expected to bring awareness to the Genesis brand and its innovations by driving digital versions of the GMR-001 Hypercar with a livery matching the real-world vehicle. The team consists of seven drivers, including European endurance sim racing champions such as Collin Spork, Jesper Pedersen, and Jernej Simončič, alongside Korean talents Hyukjin Kwon, Gyumin Kim, Youngchan Kim, and reserve driver Rokyeong Kang.

Genesis Magma Racing Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul said: “Esports is increasingly becoming an entry point to motorsport, so it is very important to have Genesis and Genesis Magma Racing represented there. Esports provides a gateway for would-be drivers to develop their talents, prove themselves to teams in official events, and build a professional racing career. If GMR Esports and our work with Le Mans Ultimate can provide a route for new drivers and fans, then we can certainly take that as a positive, on top of any event results.”

Trend Themes

  1. Automotive-branded Esports — Automakers fielding official esports teams create new digital touchpoints that can reshape marketing and vehicle development feedback loops.
  2. Virtual-to-real Talent Pipeline — The emergence of sim racing as a scouting ground blurs talent pathways between virtual competition and professional motorsport careers.
  3. Immersive Brand Livery Integration — Digital replicas of race liveries enable consistent cross-channel brand storytelling and monetizable virtual goods ecosystems.

Industry Implications

  1. Automotive — Integration of esports programs with racing operations transforms customer engagement metrics and product perception among younger demographics.
  2. Esports-and-competitive-gaming — Manufacturer-backed teams raise the commercial stakes of competitions and can alter sponsorship, broadcast, and league economics.
  3. Simulation-software-and-training-tech — High-fidelity racing simulations function as training and testing platforms that could displace traditional driver development and early-stage vehicle prototyping.
