A newly released G Suite beta has allowed for offline storage for PDFs, Office documents and other files. With the new update, "binary content" can be downloaded for users to access when offline. When doing this, a checkbox will appear on the file that is in use. The company notes that the new G Suite beta function allows for increased offline capabilities for Google drive. The feature can be useful for users who are traveling or who have a poor Internet connection.
The feature is available to consumer accounts that are pre-installed with Chrome. The update uses the Google Drive File Stream app for either Mac or Windows to save the file in question. Administrator accounts are able to opt into the Binary Content Beta, which will offer greater access to Google Drive Offline capabilities.
