Wood-Crafted Eco-Friendly Crayons

Playfool Designed the Forest Crayon Made From Real Wood

Japanese design studio Playfool created the Forest Crayons which are unique stationery with a sustainable build as it is crafted from real wood. It is backed by the abundance of well-maintained forests in Japan and Playfool's designers Daniel Coppen and Saki Maruyama found a way to use the excess timber.

The crayons are made from offcuts of a specific tree species native to Japan -- cedar, katsura, and hazenoki. The wood is collected and ground down to optimize the natural pigments which are blended together with a base of rice wax and rice brain oil. The set comes with 10 crayons and each one is made with a distinct color which has specifically been derived from the wood itself.
