Construction has just begun on a new, upscale green hotel on Key Largo, Florida which is scheduled to open in winter 2010.
Developed by Northstar Resort Enterprise Corporation, the resort will carry the name of Kimpton Hotels who are leaders in developing high-end “environmentally friendly” resorts.
The luxury 138 unit Key Largo property with a 5,000-square foot restaurant is set to become the company’s ‘green flagship.'
The eco-friendly design of the resort includes features such as a 20,000-kilowatt solar array to provide green energy to power the resort’s electric golf carts.
The resort will also feature wind generators which will power dock lights, and also a rainwater harvesting system to collect water for laundry use.
Each of the rooms will be fitted with energy-efficient light-emitting diode bulbs, water heaters that turn on upon demand, and air-conditioning that automatically shuts off when a door is left open.
