Purpose-Built Portable Music Players

RHYTHM Is a From-Scratch Digital Audio Player

Designer Mithilesh Gupta Konda created RHYTHM as a dedicated digital audio player built to play music without phone interruptions, featuring a genuine ESS SABRE DAC and a discrete amplifier stage for high-fidelity output. An ESP32-S3 handles file parsing and processing while the analog path remains driven by hardware focused solely on sound.

The device offers two fully independent, actively buffered 3.5mm headphone outputs, each fed by its own amplifier chip so two listeners can use different headphones without signal degradation. Power is split between digital and analog sections with separate ultra-low-noise regulators, and physical controls include a precision rotary encoder, tactile buttons and a compact 2-inch color display.

RHYTHM stores lossless files on a microSD card to keep listening local-first and offline. Its hands-on controls, isolated power architecture and twin outputs make it a focused alternative for listeners who prefer an uninterrupted, hardware-first audio experience.

Distraction-free Devices
Dedicated hardware for single-purpose media use creates space for premium experiences that separate entertainment from smartphone notifications and app ecosystems.
Local-first Listening
Offline storage and lossless playback highlight demand for private, ownership-based audio formats that reduce dependence on streaming platforms and connectivity.
Shared Hi-fi Audio
Independent dual-output architectures enable compact devices to deliver uncompromised co-listening experiences for travelers, audiophiles and social listening contexts.

Where This Applies

Consumer Electronics
Purpose-built portable devices present openings for specialized hardware that competes on focus, tactile design and performance rather than multifunction convenience.
Audio Equipment
High-quality DACs, discrete amplification and isolated power systems signal rising interest in compact products that bring enthusiast-grade sound to mobile formats.
Digital Media
The emphasis on locally stored files reflects a potential shift toward hybrid music consumption models where ownership, privacy and offline access regain commercial relevance.
