Data Center Management Simulator

Václav Novák Unveiled the 'Data Center' Game on Steam

Data Center is a forthcoming PC simulator from indie developer Václav Novák, presented as a hands-on management game featuring rack assembly, cable runs, server provisioning and visible data flows. The demo debuted on Steam and introduces players to core operational tasks with in-game currency and client contracts.

Gameplay walks users through procurement, physical installation and basic network configuration, including items such as CAT6E cable, SFP RJ45 modules and IOPS targets, while showing data as animated packets moving along cables. The demo includes tutorial prompts and industry terminology like subnet masks and gateways to help newcomers translate jargon into tasks.

For consumers, the title turns abstract cloud infrastructure into tactile choices about space, power and connectivity, making back-end tech more accessible as data centers expand. As an experiential primer, it helps players understand trade-offs in real-world operations and why physical decisions matter for digital services.

Gamified Infrastructure Training
By turning server provisioning and cable management into game mechanics, training pathways can shift from passive study to immersive skill acquisition that shortens onboarding cycles.
Visible Dataflow Visualization
Animating packets and network behavior offers a new interface paradigm that makes complex performance diagnostics and capacity planning more intuitive for nonexperts.
Hands-on Procurement Simulation
Simulating budgeted component selection and contract-based revenue introduces realistic supply-chain constraints that can reshape procurement tooling and forecasting models.

Sectors Adopting This

Data Center Operations
Operational teams could adopt interactive simulators for scenario testing, which would change maintenance planning and risk assessment by enabling virtual replication of physical layouts.
IT Education and Certification
Vocational programs and certifying bodies may incorporate tactile simulators to validate practical competencies in networking and hardware installation alongside theoretical exams.
Cloud Service Providers
Providers might leverage consumer-facing simulations to demystify infrastructure choices for customers, influencing product packaging and transparent pricing tied to physical constraints.
