Open-Source Chip Designs

OpenTitian is Google's Collaborative Open-Source Chip Design Project

Google entered into partnerships with a number of different companies to create OpenTitian, which is an open-source chip design project. The goal of OpenTitian is to design chips that could be used in data centers, however, because the designs are open-source, everyone will be able to check designs for potential security vulnerabilities. Open-source projects allow large groups to pool resources and knowledge to create better designs.

Google also indicated that OpenTitian chip designs will be adapted so that chips can be compatible with any device or software system.

The chip design project will be lead by LowRisc, which is a nonprofit organization. Other contributors to the project will include ETH Zurich, G+D Mobile Security, Nuvoton Technology as well as Western Digital.
