The recently announced Cadillac ELR will be playing the starring role of every auto enthusiast and car show fan's fantasy -- a concept car headed for production.
The Cadillac ELR is based on the Cadillac Converj, a luxury coupe that first hit in the scene in 2009 and drew attention for its extended range EV technology. The new Cadillac ELR will feature a four-cylinder engine generator, an electric drive unit, and a T-shaped lithium ion battery. The vehicle will be powered by electricity, so when the battery gets low, it turns on a gas powered generator that allows it to travel for a few more miles (also known as "extended range" mode).
As a car fan, it's always exciting to see a concept car make it to production. The Cadillac ELR is in development now and should release its first version to the public sometime in 2012.
