The product is created for Trader Joe's in Taiwan – the country that birthed boba – by a supplier who specializes in the tapioca pearls. To create the hybrid snack, the supplier takes individual, caramelized- brown sugar-flavored boba pearls, wraps them in a creamy coating, and then adds a Japanese-style rice-based mochi wrapper on the outside. The result is a snack that's soft and chewy, with a gooey center that's pursuing with brown sugar flavors.
