Asda Lets Independent Retailers Operate Under its Brand

Branded convenience partnerships are giving major retailers new ways to expand their physical presence without directly operating every location. Asda has launched Asda Convenience, a wholesale supply model that allows independent retailers to run stores under its brand. The initial three-store trial in Glasgow is being launched with independent operator One-O-One and supported by a £1 million investment. Each location will offer around 3,500 products, including Asda own-label items, fresh and chilled groceries, and food-to-go options.

From a business perspective, the model allows Asda to combine its supply chain, pricing, product range, and brand recognition with the local expertise of independent operators. This could provide a more capital-efficient route for reaching additional communities than relying exclusively on company-owned stores. The Glasgow trial will also provide data for refining the format before wider expansion, potentially creating a scalable wholesale revenue stream alongside Asda's existing Express business.
