By the estimations of Audio Masons, a sound equipment vendor, their new line of stone-encased speakers are 254-26125% greener than those of competing producers, depending on the model.

What exactly fuels that claim? Apparently, the rock used to build these resonators is highly sustainable and -- once the speakers die or the warranty expires -- can be disposed without much trouble. Moreover, the stone soundbox has won several eco-friendly accolades including the platinum level LEED certificate for using local materials and employing the skills of local craftspeople. Audio Masons assures its customers that over the lifespan of their equipment, their speakers do not emit any harmful chemicals into the environment. Contrariwise, the production of most modern speakers involves treating wood and metals with industrial toxins.

At $995, however, Audio Masons' main line of two-way Comet speakers are a pricey proposition. I suppose you have to ask yourself: Just how committed to a clean environment are you?
