New York Sports Club (NYSC), one of the largest health club operators in the Northeastern United States, has partnered with AI fitness platform Zing Coach to launch MYCO, an AI-powered personal trainer, built directly into the NYSC membership experience. The launch makes NYSC the first major U.S. gym chain to embed AI coaching at the infrastructure level, available to all members from day one rather than as a premium add-on.
The model is designed around the 1:245 trainer-to-member ratio that makes consistent personal training out of reach for most gym-goers. MYCO pairs a monthly human coach assessment with AI handling day-to-day programming, progression tracking, and accountability in between - adapting in real time to each member's goals, energy levels, recovery, and schedule. The first 30 days are free for all NYSC members.
Zing Coach, backed by health tech company Palta and previously partnered with Paris Saint-Germain and Les Mills, reports retention rates more than 30% above typical fitness assistant benchmarks. The NYSC partnership signals a broader shift in how major gym operators are approaching the industry's most persistent problem: while people continue to engage with fitness more than ever before, nearly half of new members churn within six months.
