Amsterdam's annual light festival brings a collection of artists together under one common theme, this year's being 'The medium is the message' and Design Bridge and Gali May Lucas choose to portray that message with 'Absorbed by Light' -- an installation that spotlights technology addiction.
The simple but powerful installation features three sculptures sitting on a park bench, all in a familiar pose. Each one has their neck bent and is looking into a smartphone screen, with the light from the device illuminating each face. The exhibit aims to highlight technology use in public spaces, ultimately reminding people to be more aware of their surroundings, especially while sitting on a park bench, where you can watch the world go by.
