Passport-Sized Foldable Phones

Xiaomi 18 Fold Expands into a 7.58-Inch Display

Xiaomi is advancing passport-sized foldable phones with the Xiaomi 18 Fold, its first mid-size foldable smartphone. The 219g device measures 10.68mm thick when folded and opens from a compact 5.38-inch outer screen into a 7.58-inch tablet-like display. Matching aspect ratios across both screens create smoother transitions, while HyperOS supports two- and three-way split-screen multitasking. Xiaomi also uses a redesigned three-link hinge and dual-layer Ultra Thin Glass structure to improve protection and reduce the visible crease.

The smaller form factor gives Xiaomi a way to address common trade-offs between portability and screen size in foldable devices. Enhanced durability could also reduce consumer concerns around flexible displays, while the larger interior screen supports productivity and entertainment use cases. For Xiaomi, the format expands its premium smartphone portfolio and creates another point of differentiation as manufacturers compete to make foldables lighter, stronger, and easier to use daily.
